Humanist Celebrant, Mark Hayford

Mark Hayford

Humanist Celebrant

Mark has been a funeral celebrant for 16 years and has found it to be the most important and rewarding work he has ever done.

His calm, kind approach and gentle but rich voice delivers beautiful, meaningful services. His own colourful background working as an actor and writer alongside a varied repertoire of ‘can do’ jobs, all adds to his creativity and empathy.

Mark is a member of Humanists UK but in line with living in a multicultural society is flexible in his approach to help a family achieve what they need for a personal service.

About Mark

Mark spent 22 years as an actor, 7 years as a supply teacher and prior to this he worked variously as a theatre critic, a book critic, a despatch rider, a diving instructor, a feature writer, a private hire driver and chauffeur to the Mayor of Bromley. Despite having conducted over 2,500 funerals to date Mark still feels he is learning and developing.

Mark has never lost sight of the fact that each funeral creates a memory and as such it is vital to ensure that that memory is a good one. For Mark, every funeral is his father’s funeral; it has to match the intensity of that occasion with its emphasis on sensitivity, sincerity and care.
